The approach
How we treat this — and how we measure progress.
Falls are the single biggest threat to independence after 70. Our Otago-based program runs Tuesday and Thursday — strength, balance, gait and a quiet education piece. Patients arrive scared of stairs and leave climbing them with confidence.
Typical recovery timeline
What recovery looks like, week by week.
Personal trajectories vary; this is the median path our patients follow.
- 1
Weeks 1–2
Berg Balance, Timed Up & Go, falls history, home audit
- 2
Weeks 3–6
Strength + balance circuit, sit-to-stand reps, gait drills
- 3
Weeks 7–10
Dual-task work, stair confidence, outdoor walking exposure
- 4
Weeks 11–12
Re-test, written 12-month maintenance plan, family briefing
What to expect
No surprises. The first three weeks are predictable.
Home audit included
On request we do a one-time visit to your home — rugs, lighting, bathroom rails. The simplest changes save the most falls.
Group of six maximum
Tuesday/Thursday group keeps cost down and morale up. Most patients make friends; we hear about it for years.
12-month maintenance plan
You leave with a printed booklet of 8 daily exercises, sized for tired eyes.
Techniques we use
Evidence-led methods, layered intentionally.
- Otago Exercise Programme
- Tai-Chi based balance
- Dual-task training
- Home environment audit
2024 outcome data
Across our 2024 cohort, Berg Balance scores improved an average of 9 points and self-reported fall fear dropped by 41%.
